Coffee was first introduced to Vietnam in 1857 by French colonists growing coffee for workers in monasteries. The plants were found to grow well in the country’s climate. Coffee played in a major role in Vietnam’s stunning economic transformation from the extreme poverty in the late-1980s to the relative prosperity in the 2010s.
